Napoleon Prudhomme of Opelousas was indicted on July 28 for manslaughter charges in the death of a two year old girl. Prudhomme was the boyfriend of the child's mother. On May 5th, Prudhomme made a statement to officials that he was in a car with the child when she began jumping around in the back seat. Prudhomme says he put her on floor board on her knees in the front street when he says the child began hitting her head against the dashboard. Prudhomme says that he stopped the car several times and told her to stop hitting her head against the dashboard. Within the hour the child was unresponsive and taken to Opelousas General Hospital. On May 6th at 5pm the child died from head injuries at a Lafayette hospital. The autopsy showed blunt trauma to the head along with swelling and bleeding of the brain as the cause of death.
