Opelousas Man Dies in Fatal Crash

Louisiana State Police Troop I are investigating a single vehicle fatal crash on US Highway 167 south of Ville Platte which claimed the life of an Opelousas man.
According to investigating troopers, at 6:15 a.m., 30-year-old Eddie Ray Williams of Opelousas, was driving a 1992 Ford truck south on US Highway 167. Williams drove off the right side of the road, struck an embankment and a tree. The reasons why Williams drove off the road are still under investigation.
Williams was not restrained and was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead by the Evangeline Parish Coroner.
It is unknown if Williams was impaired when the crash occurred; however, routine toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
The crash remains under investigation.
