Opelousas man arrested for 2nd degree battery

An Opelousas man is behind bars after allegedly beating his girlfriend.

Police say, back in January they were called by family members of a female who was in the ICU suffering from head trauma.

Investigators later determined that back in December of 2012, the victim was brought to Opelousas General, by her live in boyfriend, Dustin Rubin. At the time the victim was said be be experiencing fainting spells. She was immediately transferred to Lafayette General's ICU, but with limited information and the inability to speak to the victim investigators were at a standstill.

However, last week investigators were able to gather enough evidence to secure a warrant for the arrest of Dustin Rubin regarding aggravated 2nd degree battery. Investigators learned that the victim received numerous beatings from Rubin throughout the course of their relationship.

Rubin is behind bars in the Opelousas City Jail and will go before a judge in the morning.
