An Opelousas man is behind bars after two people reported being robbed, one at gunpoint, by a man in a red t-shirt.
Opelousas Police responded to a complaint of an armed robbery early Tuesday morning near the 500 block of Sherwood Street. The victim stated that when he refused to allow an unknown man to use his cell phone, the man pulled out a handgun and put it to his head demanding not only his cell phone, but also his wallet.
The victim turned over the items. He later told police that the suspect was wearing a red t-shirt and left the scene on a bicycle.
A short time later a second complaint was received from a second victim who stated that a man in a red t-shirt asked him for money. The victim stated that when he told the subject he didn't have any money, the man approached him and began to stick his hands into his pockets, attempting to remove any money.
The victim said that the suspect ran away when a friend of the victim arrived on scene
The suspect was soon located in the area and identified as Ricky Richard, 27, of Opelousas. Richard was arrested and transported to the Opelousas Police Department where he was booked on charges of armed robbery, attempted simple robbery, and two counts of resisting an officer.
Richard is presently being held in the Opelousas Police Department jail without bond. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
