An audit of the Opelousas City Court shows that two employees were given holiday pay while on prolonged sick leave, violating the court's personnel policy.
According to the audit report, the court erroneously paid eight days worth of holiday pay for a total of $1,300.48 in 2012 and another four days for $614.88 so far in 2013.
In the court's response, the overpayments are called an "unintentional oversight" that will not occur in the future.
The audit, released today on the Louisiana Legislative Auditor's website, also notes the court accidentally deposited $126 in its "Opelousas City Court Kitty Fund," which is used for covering parties, birthday cakes, flowers and gifts for the office.
In the audit response, the court says the accidentally deposited funds were moved instead to the court's general fund, where it was supposed to have been deposited initially.
Opelousas City Court officials were not available Monday to comment on this story.
