The Opelousas Board of Aldermen is considering -- for the third time -- an ordinance creating a TIF district designed to bring a new hotel to town.
According to Opelousas Mayor Don Cravins, the ordinance is designed to lure Hampton Inn to build a new hotel along I-49 near Creswell Lane. The law would allow the city to collect an addition two-percent tax to offset the construction costs of the hotel.
The ordinance was most recently heard by the council on Oct. 8 and defeated in a 3-2 vote.
