An investigation by Opelousas Detectives resulted in the arrest of a city of Opelousas employee on felony grade theft charges. It was revealed that city checks were allegedly deposited into a personal bank account.
Racheal St. Romain, 29, of Opelousas was charged with 3 counts of Theft, 11 counts of Felony Theft, Monetary Instrument Abuse, and Malfeasance in Office. Investigation found that some of the checks deposited into the personal account of St. Romain had been in her possession dating back approximately one year to the date.
Racheal St. Romain was an employee of the City of Opelousas working in the Executive Branch of Accounts Payable and had been employed in that position for approximately 5 ½ years. The total of all checks illegally deposited into a personal bank account was approximately $11,941.60.
