The Opelousas Board of Aldermen's budget committee will request Wednesday that a proposed suspension of a cost-of-living increase go before the city's civil service commission for approval.
Opelousas city employees have not received the annual 2.5% raise since 2011 due to the city's budget woes.
The board of aldermen discussed the issue at its June 10 meeting, but it did not take any action. If the civil service commission gives the green light for suspending the pay increase, the board of aldermen would also have to approve the measure.
Wednesday's meeting is scheduled for 4:00 P. M. at Opelousas City Hall.
