Opelousas Police Department arrested three individuals and has a warrant for a fourth regarding the shooting near JS Clark Leadership Academy in Opelousas.
Students at J.S. Clark Leadership Academy in Opelousas were sent home early Tuesday after an odd set of circumstances.
It all started when a car hit a fire hydrant, which left the school with limited water pressure.
The dean of students was checking out the damage to the fire hydrant, when feet away a group of people started shooting at each other.
The school was placed in lock down before dismissing early.
Arrested:
Jonavan Freeman Lastrapes 22 of 906 E. Laurent St Opel. La charged with
1) Agg Assault with a Firearm
2) Firearm-Free Zone
Barry Rigsby 27 of 409 Raymond St Opel. La
1) Felon in Possession of a Firearm
2) Illegal Use of Weapon or dangerous. Instrumentality
Paul Lastrapes 31 of 906 Truman st Opel. La
1) Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm
OPD has an outstanding warrant for Tyrone Roberts 23 of 1015 Benjamin Street Opel La
1) Agg. Assault with a Firearm
2) Firearm Free Zone
3) Illegal Use of Weapons or dangerous Instrumentality
Investigators have located and seized two (2) handguns used in this shooting: 45 Cal Semi-Auto Handgun and a .38 Cal S/W Revolver.
According to police, the motive seems to be an ongoing dispute between Freeman and Roberts.
