NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Louisiana residents have been snapping up
rebates reservations in a program to replace appliances with
energy-efficient ones.
The Department of Natural Resources's EmPower Louisiana website
showed that by Tuesday night, less than one-quarter of the money
was left. It said $4.9 million in rebates were reserved, and about
$1.5 million was left.
Rebates for 13 sorts of appliances range from $75 for freezers
to $500 for central air conditioners and furnaces.
Reservations opened Saturday, through the program website -
www.empowerlouisiana.com or empowerlouisiana.org - or by calling
1-877-223-6979.
To get the rebate, people must send proof within 30 days that
they've bought a new Energy Star appliance and certify that they
disposed of the old one properly.
