The number of Americans without healthcare insurance is higher than ever. According to the latest census, almost 50 million people don't have it. Louisiana has almost 900 uninsured residents.

Louisiana Consumer Healthcare Coalition Executive Director, Moriba Karamoko, said, "premiums in Louisiana have been increasing at three and four times the average wages."

Chief Executive Officer of Teche Action Clinic, Dr. Gary Wiltz, said " if you have a large family you have to make those decisions about paying the rent or mortgage, or just sustenance and they wind up forgoing health insurance."

In a matter of ten years, ten million fewer people had health insurance thru their employers

Wiltz said, " you have a greater risk of dieing, the morbidity rate is higher, if you're uninsured."
