According to Sheriff Mike Couvillon the week of June 7th proved to be one that would put a dent in the sale of illegal narcotics in Vermilion Parish. It began earlier in the week when the Task Force made an arrest on Oris Briggs Jr which yielded the seizure of approximately seven and a half pounds of marijuana and eight and a half ounces of cocaine in powder and crack form. Later in the week the task force, working on anonymous tips raided a elaborate marijuana grow which yielded the seizure of 24 suspected marijuana plants. Sheriff Couvillion advised that it is estimated that approximately one pound of marijuana is harvested from one plant. This would be a seizure of 24 pounds of marijuana that would have hit the streets of our parish.
On June 10th the task force conducted an investigation which resulted in the arrest of Corey Samuels of Abbeville La. Samuels was arrested for Conspiracy to Distribute over a half pound of suspected marijuana and possession of marijuana. Upon speaking to witnesses involved in the Samuels case the task force continued the investigation by searching a residence located on Oliver St in Abbeville. Once a search of the residence was concluded the task force once again made a seizure of approximately three pounds of marijuana, and confiscated numerous items which are believed to have been utilized in the manufacturing of crack cocaine. Arrested at the Oliver St address was Ebony Thibodeaux. Thibodeaux was charged with Manufacturing Crack Cocaine, Possession of Marijuana with intent to Distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia.
In all the task force took approximately 35 pounds of marijuana and 9 ounces of cocaine off of the streets of the parish this week with a street value of approximately 35,000.00.
