One Dead, Driver Arrested on DWI Fourth Offense

An early morning crash claims the life of an Abbeville man.
The crash happened just after one am on LA 82 South of Abbeville. Troopers say that the driver of the vehicle, 52 year old Gregory Menard attempted to pass several cars in a no passing zone, and collided head on with a car heading northbound. Upon impact, passenger 55 year old Kenneth Menard was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead on arrival.
Gregory Menard is charged with vehicular homicide, DWI fourth offense, vehicular negligent injuring, and passing in a no passing zone.
The driver of the vehicle heading northbound has severe injuries and was transported to an area hospital.
