Federal officials are warning Lafayette residents to watch out for malware that claims to be a message from the FBI. Agent Kyle Hanrahan with the New Orleans bureau of the FBI says reports of the the "drive-by virus" have spiked in the last month. The malware, which was first reported in August, often carries a bogus message claiming the computer has been locked due to some sort of illegal activity. The malware then tells the user to pay a fine using a credit card to unlock the computer. If you have been a victim of this virus, contact a computer repairman and the FBI.
