Officials urge citizens to be aware of Medicare scam

Louisiana Senior Medicare Patrol, The Louisiana Attorney General and the US Department of Health and Human Services are warning residents of Medicare fraud.

Since July 1, seniors in Lincoln, Caddo and Lafayette Parishes have reported receiving calls from 786-358-6691. Medicare beneficiaries throughout the country have also received calls from this same number. The caller says a new Medicare card is being sent out and the caller needs to confirm the senior's banking information. Seniors who have provided banking information have had $466.91 taken from their bank account. Do not give out your banking information. THIS IS A SCAM!Medicare is NOT sending out new Medicare cards.

Remember:

Neither Medicare nor Social Security will call you at home to discuss your Medicare benefits or verify personal information.

It is not necessary to renew your Medicare benefits.

Never give personal information to unknown persons that call you on the phone.
