Iowa residents are on alert after state health officials notified them of a rabid skunk in the area. KPLC reports officials with the office of public health say a person was exposed to the skunk last Sunday in the area near Iowa High School. Residents are advised to avoid contact with skunks and other animals that can contract rabies. Officials say there are more rabid skunks in late winter and late summer due to "denning habits" during the fall and winter.
