Officer Surprised to Find Alligator in Truck

A Eunice Police Officer inspecting a truck stuck in a ditch was surprised to find an alligator carcass in the back of the truck. Ryan Joseph Dartez and Cody James Lejeune, both of Crowley, got the truck stuck in the ditch behind Bellard's Pharmacy in Eunice and Police were called after the men were seen walking around outside of the pharmacy. When the officer approached the men, Dartez and Lejeune ran from the officers. Police located both of the men, one of which was hiding in the bushes. Upon inspecting the truck, the officer saw the alligator carcass in the back of the truck. The alligator's tail was missing. Ryan Joseph Dartez, 18, of 813 Stutes and Cody James Lejeune, 18, of 129 North Avenue M were charged with illegal possession of an alligator, criminal mischief, criminal trespass and simple criminal damage to property. The Department of Wildlife and Fisheries took the alligator.
