Officer shooting heads to grand jury

The case of a Lafayette police officer shooting to death Quamaine Dwayne Mason, 21, will go before a grand jury. The shooting happened on Dec. 9, 2011 when Mason left his girlfriend's apartment at Campus Crossings on Theater Drive. Officers were called to the complex about an aggravated burglary. As officers arrived, they encountered the suspect exiting the building, and he was found to be armed, according to police. State Police investigated and say multiple shots were fired at the suspect. The name of the officer has not been released. A grand jury will hear the case on July 18.
