A Lafayette Police Officer has been put on leave after an amateur video showing him shaking a teenager at a Mardi Gras parade was released. The video has since been posted on CNN's I-Report and can be seen by clicking HERE.
Lafayette Police released the following statement:
"On February 19th 2010, the Lafayette Police Department was made aware of the video posted on CNN i-Report regarding an incident that occurred on the February 16th, Mardi Gras Day, in downtown Lafayette.
The video showed the actions of several officers of the Lafayette Police Department regarding their handling of an incident involving multiple young people. Specifically, an officer raising his voice and shaking a female being detained.
Chieft Jim Craft has ordered an immediate criminal and administrative investigation into the incident. The officer in the video has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
There will be no further comment on the incident until the investigation is complete."
According to a member of the family, they have not decided yet if they will press charges against the Lafayette Police Department regarding this incident.
