State Police and several other agencies are on scene of an officer involved shooting in St. Mary Parish. Troopers say just before 11:00am deputies with the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's were responding to a call in Charenton, near the casino, when shots were fired. Details from State Police are limited at this time, but family members tell us their loved one, Matthew Strickland with the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office was shot in the incident. Strickland is in stable condition at the hospital. He was said to have been shot several times in the face/neck area. He is being taken to a trauma center in New Orleans. No word on why he was called out or if there are any other people injured.
Strickland just started last week at Sheriff's Office. He previously worked at the jail and served a year with the National Guard in Iraq. Family members say he is talking at this time.
