WELCH, La. (AP) - Authorities say an off-duty Iowa police officer was booked with driving while intoxicated and careless operation after a single-vehicle accident near Welsh.
State police say the accident occurred just before 4 a.m. Saturday as 35-year-old Phil Druilhet of Welsh was driving an Iowa police take-home unit on La. Highway 99. Druilhet was taken to a Lake Charles hospital with moderate injuries
Sgt. James Anderson tells The American Press on Monday Druilhet was released to the hospital rather than being booked because he was injured.
Druilhet was a dog handler for Welsh police, but he recently resigned to take a job with Iowa police.
