North Louisiana writer wins accolades for book

SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - A north Louisiana writer is gaining a lot of attention for his coming-of-age story about a teenager in a small town in Arkansas.
The Times reports that John Corey Whaley has won the American Library Association's William C. Morris YA Debut Award and the Michael L. Printz Award for Excellence in Young Adult Literature for his book "Where Things Come Back."
Whaley comes from the small town of Springhill on the border with Arkansas. Whaley called it a great honor to win the awards.
