Norris set to announce interim police chief

WEST MONROE, La. (AP) - West Monroe Mayor Dave Norris may announce an interim police chief Wednesday.

Norris says that he has selected an interim chief but declined to release the person's name until he talks city council members. Then, he says, he will make an announcement.

Police Chief Christopher Elg this past week accepted the position as chief of the police department in Tequesta, Fla., which is just north of Miami.

Elg had been West Monroe's police chief since January of 2004. He'll stay on the job in West Monroe through Saturday. He will take over as police chief in Tequesta on Feb. 4.
