NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Two New Orleans police officers have been
fired for misconduct while on duty.
The Times Picayune reports Officer Carey Dykes, a 13-year
veteran, was fired this past week for numerous violations,
including having sex with a woman while on the clock, sleeping
while on duty and disregarding his police work.
Also, Officer Rydell Diggs, a nine-year veteran, was fired for
allegedly beating a man and lifting cash from his wallet during a
2007 traffic stop in the Carrollton neighborhood. Diggs was
prosecuted for the charges last year and acquitted in Criminal
District Court in a one-day judge trial.
Police Superintendent Ronal Serpas approved and signed off on
the dismissals.
Both officers can appeal the terminations.
