Non-farm jobs in La. unchanged from March

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) The number of non-farm jobs in Louisiana in April was unchanged from March.

The Louisiana Workforce Commission says the state on a non-seasonally adjusted basis is down 17,800 jobs from April 2009. That loss is entirely in the goods-producing sector, including the petroleum industry, manufacturing and construction. Service-providing jobs are unchanged from a year ago.

On a seasonally adjusted basis, Louisiana's unemployment rate was 6.7 percent in April, down a bit from March's 6.9 percent rate. The national rate for April was 9.9 percent

The state noted a jump of about 20,337 people in the civilian labor force an indication that more people have resumed looking for work.
