NO to hold abandoned vehicle auction

The city of New Orleans will hold its second abandoned vehicle auction on Thursday.
The auction, located at the Almonaster Auto Pound, will begin at 9 a.m. A preview day and buyer registration is on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Residents also can bid online, but need to register with Proxibid before the auction's start time by visiting, http://www.brownsauction.com.
Since May 2010, the city has held 13 vehicle auctions, selling 1,315 abandoned cars and contributing over $870,631 to the city's general fund.
The current auction will have 64 vehicles for sale, all of which have been discarded on neighborhood streets or left unclaimed by residents with excessive parking fines and fees.
If buying a vehicle, cash or a cashier's check is required on the day of the auction.
