HOUMA, La. (AP) Investigators are still working to establish the cause of death in the case of a young mother whose body was found in Terrebonne Parish.
Coroner's investigators found no gunshot or stab wounds on the body of 26-year-old Merell Stewart of Gray.
Stewart was missing for about four days before officers found her remains Tuesday in about a foot of water near U.S. Highway 90 and Louisiana Highway 20, according to the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff Vernon Bourgeois said an autopsy was performed Wednesday. Investigators will prepare a toxicology report on Stewart, which could take weeks to complete.
A sheriff's spokesman said investigators are withholding certain details about Stewart's death while they interview suspects.
