WEST MONROE, La. (AP) - The West Monroe Board of Aldermen has approved a measure to prohibit smoking in its parks and recreation areas.
The News-Star reports the measure was brought before the board Tuesday night by Alderwoman Staci Albritton and approved by the board.
West Monroe Mayor Dave Norris said the city already prohibited smoking inside public buildings within its park and recreation areas. The new policy extends the smoking ban to all areas of the city's public parks.
City officials say people who do not comply with the new rule will be asked to leave the park and recreational areas.
