N.O. Man Gets 58 Years in Alexandria Carjacking

ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) - A 29-year-old New Orleans man has been
sentenced in Alexandria to a total of 58 years in prison for
aggravated battery, robbery, carjacking, purse snatching and other
charges arising from an incident last June.
The Town Talk newspaper in Alexandria reports Thursday that
Felton Hurst, who was convicted in the case, had a long criminal
record.
According to police, Hurst went to a bingo parlor, where he
approached an Avoyelles Parish mother and daughter. He punched the
mother in the face, grabbed some of their belongings and tried to
leave in their vehicle, running the mother over with the car.
Police Chief James Hay was working at the bingo hall at the time
and shot out the tires of the car as Hurst tried to drive away.
