COLUMBUS, Ohio - The 71st ranked Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team fell to No.72 East Tennessee State University, 4-2, in the ITA Kick-off Weekend consolation match at the Columbus Regional inside the Varsity Tennis Center on Sunday.
"We know where we are at this point in the season," head coach Mark Jeffrey said. "We have to put our head down and work even harder to improve and get better. We started the season against two tough teams, so we will have to regroup and look to improve this week to get ready for our next match on Friday."
With the loss, the Cajuns fall to 0-2 on the young season.
ETSU won the doubles point after claiming victories on courts two and three. Rick de Groot and Jake Wynan won their second consecutive doubles match defeating ETSU's Jesus Bandres and Rogerio Ribeiro 8-7 (7-4).
The Cajuns came up just short at No.3 doubeles as Hunter and Yates Johnson fell to Roger Ordeig and Ricardo Pabon in a super tie-breaker, 8-7 (9-7).
In singles action, Hunter Johnson picked up his first singles win of the season routing Pabon at No.6 singles, 6-2, 6-0, to tie the match at 1-all.
Louisiana grabbed a 2-1 edge when Jake Wynan claimed his first singles win of the spring season topping Jorge Varon, 6-3, 6-4.
The Buccaneers secured the next three points to end the match winning at No.1, 3 and 5 singles.
UL is slated to open the home season on Friday, Feb. 1 at 3 p.m. when the Ragin' Cajuns play host to New Orleans at Cajun Courts. Admission is free and the first 50 fans in attendance will receive free crawfish.
