MONROE, La. - Riding a four-game win streak, the sixth-ranked Ragin' Cajuns baseball team is set to open conference play this weekend with a three-game series against ULM at Warhawk Field starting on Friday at 6 p.m.
The two teams face off again on Saturday at 6 p.m. before closing out the series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Louisiana (14-2) is coming off of 7-4 win at Tulane on Wednesday. The team is 6-0 on the road this season including wins at the Green Wave, LSU and Southern Miss.
Centerfielder Seth Harrison paces the team with a .344 average notching 21 hits including five doubles, two triples and a home run to go with 11 RBI.
Sophomore Blake Trahan is riding a six-game hit streak posting a .340 average on the season with three doubles, 12 RBI, four stolen bases and scored 12 runs. Reining Sun Belt Player of the Week Jace Conrad leads the team in stolen bases (6), home runs (13), runs scored (12) and RBI (18).
Austin Robichaux will make the start on Friday for the Cajuns coming into the outing with a 2-1 record and 1.86 ERA in 29.0 innings pitched. Robichaux ranks third in the Sub Belt with 29 strikeouts.
Carson Baranik is slated to start on Saturday boasting a conference-best 0.55 ERA holding opponents scoreless in 31.2 innings including the last 24.1 innings. Baranik also leads the Sun Belt in opponent's batting average (.124) and innings pitched (32.2). The Ragin' Cajuns starter for Sunday has yet to be determined.
Louisiana holds the all-time series lead of 75-52, with the Cajuns holding a 21-12 edge since ULM (7-11) joined the Sun Belt in 2007. Louisiana is 32-18 vs. ULM in the Robichaux era.
The Warhawks have dropped five straight after being swept last weekend by Samford before falling in a pair of midweek games against Jackson State.
ULM ranks last in the conference in hitting at .227 and seventh in team ERA (4.18). Justin Stawychny holds the top average on the team hitting .297 with four doubles, two triples, two home runs and seven RBI.
Right-handers Chris Hunt and Alex Hermeling will open the series for ULM, while left Alex Dumaine will make the start on Sunday. Hunt leads the team with a 1.80 ERA and a 1-0 record in two starts.
