As has become customary, the LSU Eunice softball team swept another doubleheader on Friday, this time on the road at San Jacinto Community College, improving to 38-4 on the season.
"It was a good day in the circle, and we had big hits. With 12 days off, I was worried and thought we would come out rusty. They came out and played extremely hard," head coach Andy Lee said.
In the opener, pitcher Julienne Broussard tossed a one-hitter, allowing just three base runners and striking out seven in the Lady Bengals' 8-0 six inning win.
Offensively, Taylor Simon led the way with a 3-for-4 game, connecting on a double and driving in four RBI.
Codi Covington, Emily Nolan and Randi Vosburg each finished with two hits. Nolan finished with six RBI on a double and a two-run homer, while Covington added a double and three RBI and Vosburg drove home two RBI.
Vosburg's RBI single opened the scoring in the top of the fourth inning before Pam Wainwright's RBI single pushed the lead to two runs. Carey Alexis' sacrifice fly RBI brought home the final run of the inning.
The two-run fifth inning was highlighted by Vosburg's second RBI single, before Simon drove home a run with her single in the sixth before Nolan sent her two-run shot over the left field wall for the first game's final score.
The second game saw the Lady Bengals come from behind with a two-run fifth inning to take the lead before breaking the game open for a 7-2.
Brooklyn Guillot earned the win, allowing seven hits and both runs while added one strikeout.
At the plate, Covington, Wainwright and Brooke Thomas each finished with two hits, as Covngton and Ashley Subervielle each notched a double, while Clark added a three-run triple as her lone hit.
Nolan and Covington also drove in an RBI each.
After San Jacinto took the lead with a solo home run in the third inning, the Lady Bengals took the lead in the fifth on Covington's RBI double to score Vosburg before an error allowed Thomas to score as well.
Nolan's RBI infield single opened the scoring in the seventh before Clark connected for her bases-clearing triple to increase the advantage before she scored one batter later on a San Jacinto error.
The Lady Bengals are now off until Wednesday, when they travel to take on LSU Alexandria in a doubleheader scheduled for a 5 p.m. start and is available on Bengal All-Access.
