Nine People Arrested Following Undercover Online Operation

The Louisiana State Police Special Victims Unit has arrested 9 people for charges ranging from computer aided solicitation of a minor to prostitution. Investigators say these arrests stemmed from an undercover operation this weekend which focused on human sex trafficking and the online solicitation of juveniles. Detectives were assisted in their investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigations, Homeland Security Investigations and Lafayette Metro Narcotics.

Troopers tell us starting on Friday, February 28th, through Saturday March 1st, detectives conducted an operation in the Lafayette area which focused on combating the sexual exploitation of children, prostitution, and human trafficking. During the operation detectives worked in various undercover capacities through online networking websites. Investigators say they were able to identify 9 people who requested to meet adults and/or children for various sexual purposes. Troopers say in all of the cases the suspects offered money for sex from the undercover detectives.

On February 28, 2014 the following people were arrested:
(1)Shante Monique McClain, Oklahoma City, OK, 23 years old, Prostitution
(2)Fallon L. Childress, Lafayette, 28 years old, Prostitution
(3)Desrelle Lastrapes, Lafayette, 23 years old, Prostitution and a narcotics warrant from Texas
(4)Jody Lee, Lafayette, 28 years old, Prostitution
(5)Charlotte Berthelot, Lafayette, 37 years old, Prostitution
(6)Carl F. White, Jr., Lafayette, 32 years old, Promoting Prostitution
(7)Joseph J. Ventress, Lafayette, 26 years old, Pandering; Possession with the intent to distribute Crack Cocaine

On March 1, 2014 the following people were arrested:
(1)Stewart Michael Brown, Lafayette, 29 years old, Computer Aided Solicitation of a Minor; Indecent Behavior with a Juvenile; Prostitution
(2)Liwei Zhao, Lafayette, 24 years old, Computer Aided Solicitation of a Minor; Prostitution

State Police say they will continue to work with local, state and federal partners to combat the commercial sexual exploitation of children and adults.
