Nicholls recruiting top high school students

THIBODAUX, La. (AP) - More than 100 high-school seniors took part in Nicholls State University's "Leadership and Diversity" recruitment night.
Wednesday night marked the fourth recent invitation-only event Nicholls has held this year to lure the best-qualified students from surrounding parishes. The Daily Comet reports that in order to attend the events, students had to have a 3.0 grade-point average.
Nicholls has been steadily raising its admissions standards since 2005.
As the standards have become tougher, the school has shown signs of better performance. This year, retention rates jumped slightly over the previous year.
