CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - A Republican running for New Hampshire
governor says plans are being scrapped to hold a campaign
fundraiser that was to feature a bikini contest.
A spokesman for John Stephen said Friday that the campaign had
no idea the contest was planned as part of a barbecue fundraiser.
Spokesman Greg Moore says all Stephen knew was that cigar
distributor Victor Vitale was holding a poolside barbecue with
cigars for Stephen next month in Nashua. Moore says Vitale decided
to spice up the event on his own.
Vitale said he was canceling the contest. And the Stephen
campaign now says it will not participate in the event at all.
