Construction will start next week to bring drinkable water to about 200 residents who live between Melville and Krotz Springs. High arsenic levels have stopped residents from drinking tap water, and they've relied on bottled water for two-and-half-years, said Sabrina Ellis, a board member with St. Landry Parish Water District 5. Construction to build a water line from Krotz Springs will begin on Nov. 19. Grants and a USDA loan are paying for it. Residents should have drinkable water by April.
