The Chitimacha Tribe of Louisiana and the Louisiana Open unveiled a brand new trophy for the 2014 Louisiana Open.
It's the first time the trophy has been changed in a decade and a half.
Lee Michaels created the new trophy, an ornate vase, which is a more Louisiana-themed design than in previous years. The new trophy was revealed at a 10 a.m. press conference Wednesday at the Le Triomphe clubhouse.Cypress Bayou Casino Hotel CEO and General Manager Anthony Patrone and Tournament Director Danny Jones were on hand to present the new look.
"With this being the only Louisiana event on the web.com tour, we felt it was important to make the trophy feel more representative of our state. This is the first time the trophy has changed in more than 15 years. Lee Michaels did a great job creating the look and feel that we wanted. We are also excited that Monday morning our new champion and new trophy will be seen in Times Square on the Nasdaq board," said Patrone.
The Louisiana Open begins Thursday and lasts until Sunday. This year's open will feature a Small Business Summit put on by tour sponsor Web.com on opening day. Owners of small businesses in Acadiana are encouraged to attend tomorrow's competition. These small business participants will be granted two event credentials and access to Web.com ambassadors, who will advise them about possible online strategies for their businesses. Door prizes will be awarded to select small business attendees.
Last year's small business event was held at City Club and attracted about 75 participants. A Web.com spokesperson said that he hopes this year's event will dwarf last year's event by comparison. The Small Business Summit is one of 50 the company is hosting nationwide.
