Breaux Bridge has a new top cop, voted in by a narrow margin. Only 11 votes separated P.J. Hebert from Rollie Cantu.
Breaux Bridge native Percy "P.J." Hebert edged out his opponent Tuesday, running on a platform to reform the troubled Breaux Bridge police department...
P.J.'s slogan is "Time for a Change"- he says there are 2 big issues the police department has not focused on enough that he will address.
"We need more uniformed patrol presence and more narcotics work, which I did for 15 years. I feel that's a big need everywhere. You know people should have a law enforcement agency that gives them service they deserve," says Hebert.
Hebert has been in law enforcement for decades, having worked as a military policeman, with State Police and the Sheriff's Office.
The chief-elect says after a short break to spend time with the family, he will be ready to take-on the new role.
"I'm going to wait till it's final but I'll get with the chief and see if I can start familiarizing myself with the operation here," he says.
He will officially take office in January.
