MONROE, La. (AP) - The highly-anticipated new terminal at the Monroe Regional Airport is nearing completion with the opening scheduled for mid-October.
Construction on the $36 million terminal began in August 2009 and airport manager Cleve Norrell tells The News-Star workers are tying up loose ends and putting on all the finishing touches.
The terminal will consist of three buildings with a fourth building to be built at a later date.
The first building will be for airline ticket offices, where people can check-in and have their bags checked.
The second building will be the actual terminal and the third will be the secure boarding lounge for ticketed passengers only.
Norell says the new terminal will have several amenities that the original terminal lacks, making the entire traveling experience more comfortable.
