New Orleans officials and the Federal Transit Administration have signed an agreement that lays the tracks for a new streetcar line in New Orleans.
The FTA said Thursday that it had signed a grant agreement with the New Orleans Regional Transportation Authority to use $45 million in federal funds to construct a streetcar line between the Union Passenger Terminal train station to Canal Street.
A year ago, the Obama administration announced plans for the 1.5-mile line. The project is being funded with economic stimulus money.
