Lafayette Police have received at least three complaints from citizens receiving phone calls believed to be scams. The scam artists are contacting the victims and advising that a relative has been incarcerated and money is needed for bail. In one instance the victim was advised that his grandson was arrested in Quebec, Canada for DUI and bail money was needed. The suspect identified himself as a member of the Royal Canadian Police Force. Fortunately in all of the incidents the victims verified the information prior to sending any money. Lafayette Police are asking anyone who may receive a phone call of this nature to verify the information with their local authorities prior to conducting any transactions.
