PORT ALLEN, La. (AP) - Port Allen police say a New Roads woman accused of stealing $11,000 from a Parkinson's disease patient she was caring for has been arrested.
Police Chief Fred Smith says that 42-year-old Sharon Smith has been booked on 89 counts of felony theft, 41 counts of forgery and one count of exploitation of the infirmed.
Police said Sharon Smith, who is not related to the police chief, was working as a personal care attendant earlier this year, looking after a 63-year-old Port Allen man.
Over an eight-month period, police say Sharon Smith accessed the victim's bank account to pay her personal bills and to "fund her lifestyle."
It was not immediately known whether Sharon Smith has an attorney.
