LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - In Lafayette, officials have provided the
latest update on a planned Public Safety Complex for the Lafayette
Parish Sheriff's Office, the first phase of which will cost about
$15 million.
Sheriff's Office Corrections Director Rob Reardon said the
complex will include a 200-bed work-release housing complex and a
100-bed space for minimum security prisoners. It also will include
a new central laundry facility, inmate industry and warehouse
building, video visitation area and an employee training center.
Reardon said it will likely take several years to finish Phase I
of the project, according to The Advocate newspaper. Reardon also
says the Sheriff's Office does not plan to seek a new tax to fund
the structure.
