New Program Aimed to Help Fire Victims

The Lafayette Fire Department, upholding it's oath-to save life and property, implements a new program to assist fire victims of Lafayette parish. The mission of Project F.I.R.E. (Firefighters Initiating Rebuilding Efforts) is to provide qualifying victims with immediate and short-term housing and fundamental resources to assist in rebuilding their lives. Lafayette Fire Department will utilize three homes owned by Lafayette Consolidated Government, Community Development to house the fire victims for up to three days, assist in contacting disaster relief agencies, locating long-term housing, and provide support and comfort during their rebuilding efforts.

On Thursday, October 22, 2009, 10:00 a.m., at 1010 Mudd Avenue, Lafayette Fire Department will unveil its new initiative to assist families who lost their homes by fire.

Lafayette Fire Department extends appreciation to Olinde's Furniture of Lafayette for donating some of the furniture in the emergency relief houses.
