NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The Louisiana National Guard will help the Haitian government prepare for and react to major natural events, strengthen its national police force and support the island nation's Coast Guard.
Since the devastating earthquake two years ago in Haiti, the Louisiana National Guard has led two missions to build schools and medical centers, and to give dental and medical care to people in Haiti's Artibonite Department.
That's the flood-prone area where a number of refugee camps were set up after the earthquake in January 2010, and where a cholera outbreak last year was clustered.
The new agreement is under the National Guard's State Partnership Program, which has 66 partnerships between 46 states and territories and 65 nations around the world.
