NEW ORLEANS (AP) - City officials are touting the long list of events coming to New Orleans in April to kick-off the nation's three year commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812.
The celebration of the War of 1812 and the bicentennial of the Star Spangled Banner will begin during NOLA Navy Week, April 17-23 and will include visits from tall ships and military vessels from around the world and two Blue Angels air shows.
The three years' of festivities will wrap up in New Orleans in 2015.
Other ports the ships will visit are in New York, Norfolk, Va., Baltimore, Boston, and New London, Conn. Commemoration events in the Great Lakes will take place in Milwaukee, Chicago, Toledo and Cleveland, Ohio, Detroit, and Buffalo, N.Y.
