NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The New Orleans Hornets have waived reserve guard D.J. Strawberry, the son of former Major League Baseball star Darryl Strawberry.
Strawberry, who is 6-foot-5, played in four preseason games for the Hornets. The former Maryland standout averaged three points and one rebounds in 6.8 minutes per game. The Hornets were Strawberry's third NBA team since he was drafted late in the second round by Phoenix in 2007. He has also with Houston during the 2008 preseason.
The move trimmed the Hornets' roster to 15 players. New Orleans, which was scheduled to wrap up its preseason slate at Oklahoma City on Thursday night, opens the regular season next Wednesday at home against Milwaukee.
