NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The city of New Orleans cannot account
properly for millions of dollars spent on high technology,
including a software system that no one at City Hall ever heard of.
That's according to a state audit released Monday.
The report covers early 2005 through the end of 2009 - the tail
end of the first term and the entire second term of former Mayor
Ray Nagin.
The legislative auditor says the city lacked documentation on
the purchase and maintenance of software systems, information on
the purchase price of 20 computer information kiosks and additions
to a software vending contract.
The auditor also says state personnel had trouble obtaining
access to city records - and those of its vendors.
