NEW ORLEANS (AP) - New Orleans is hoping to clean up its act a
bit.
On Friday, city officials announced the formation of Keep New
Orleans Beautiful, an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful. The
initiative will seek to fight litter and waste and beautify
neighborhoods in other ways.
City officials hope the campaign will bring in grants to help
the city plant greenery, improve recycling and cut down on graffiti
and illegal dumping.
The initiative will also conduct an annual "Litter Index" to
track the worst place for litter. The first volunteers to assess
the city's litter problems headed out Saturday.
