New Orleans assistant DA arrested

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - An Orleans Parish assistant district attorney has been booked on a charge of simple battery.
According to the website for the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office, 26-year-old Matthew McLaren was booked Tuesday on one count of domestic abuse battery.
WWL-TV reports that McLaren's bond was set at $5,000. It was not immediately known whether he has an attorney.
The District Attorney's Office has recused itself from the case, and asked the state Attorney General's Office to take over the matter. Christopher Bowman, a spokesman for the District Attorney's Office, says McLaren has been suspended without pay.
